Ayurveda is “Ayu” means Life and “Veda” means Knowledge, meaning knowledge of life is Ayurveda. The basic five elements “Panchmahabhutta” Aakash(Space), Prithvi(Earth), Vayu(Air), Jal(Water) and Agni(Fire) in different combinations form the three Doshas viz. Vatta, Pitta and Kapha which in different combination form the prakriti of each individual at the time of birth which is partly also governed by season and the astrological placement of stars at that particular time. Each individual is healthy till he/she balances his/her tri dosha prakriti with food and other habits with which he/she is born.
The time when he/she disturbs the balance of his/her tri doshas with irregular lifestyle, he/she invites diseases. Again if we balance his/her tri doshas with his/her prakriti he/she would regain health which is the basic principle of Ayurveda. When nature created life it had given the basic requirement for its survival in its surrounding in the form of botanical origin, mineral origin and animal origin which constitutes the basic input material of Ayurveda.
